To reduce CO2 emissions, a modal shift in transportation means from trucks to ferries and railway CO2, but we are planning to do this for the Kansai-to-Kanto route that carries the most of our load. Along this route, trucks carry 50 t of products everyday. Starting in October 2006, we will switch 10 t of that to railway transport, watch the situation and plan the next modal shift of 10 t more. If we switch even 10 t from trucks to railway, which emit less CO2, a considerable environmental effect can be expected on a daily basis.
Also, parallel to this is the sharing of waste. In order get consumers to use our products, product and material waste must be kept to an absolute minimum, as there is much associated with waste that harms the environment such as transport and incineration. To reduce the effect that waste generation has on the environment to a minimum, plans are to improve transportation and incineration efficiency so as to reduce CO2 emissions. To help improve the environment, it is necessary to detect the inefficiencies across a broad spectrum beyond distribution from material procurement to discard, and share the responsibilities with other companies that have similar woes. We will be implementing measures that will prove constructive and useful towards environmental improvement. |
