After becoming closely acquainted with death as the result of contracting HIV, I decided to live the rest of my life by the motto of “life is for enjoying,” and that motto hasn’t changed to this day, even now that death feels far less imminent. Maybe I’m just trying to justify my actions.
I believe that we make our own happiness, and there are ways to fully enjoy ourselves even when we’re alone. Going out onto the verandah when the weather’s nice and gazing aimlessly at the outside world while drinking coffee, for example, or going out for a walk clutching my digital camera and looking for my favorite things to take pictures of.
I also like watching and getting excited over sports, as well as taking part in them and sweating profusely-it really makes me feel refreshed.
Although I don’t get the opportunity to go places as much as I’d like, travel is another one of things I enjoy most in life. I love traveling overseas, and tend mostly to set out for places by the sea rather than sightseeing in a city. While drinking ice-cold wine at a peaceful resort, I like reading books, talking or just gazing out at the beautiful sea. It’s really calming. Eating out is also very enjoyable given the completely different climate of a holiday destination.
Just thinking about where I should go next gets me all excited!
There is hardship and sadness in life, but there is also much to enjoy.
By managing to enjoy my life, these difficult and sad events become somewhat easier to bear. |
