Q3:How can you prevent periodontal disease?

A3:
Periodontal disease is an infectious disease caused by bacterial infection. Periodontits begins when harmful bacteria in the mouth overcome the body's defense system. Periodontits begin with the symptoms presented as swelling and bleeding of the gums, and progressing over time with "chronic inflammation", it can eventually lead to the destruction of periodontal ligament and alveolar bone.
"Chronic inflammation" refers to a state in which excessive physiologically active protein agents, which are primarily produced for the purpose of defense, accelerate the progression of periodontal disease by destroying the structure supporting the teeth.
To prevent periodontal disease through self-control, it is very important to first understand the mechanism of the disease. Primary preventive measure to be taken is to first block the infection of bacteria, and once the inflammation starts, to immediately control the progression.
However, once the inflammation starts in deep pocket, it is almost impossible for individuals to control the inflammation by themselves. Because periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting from a consequence of one's lifestyle, it may be too late when you are finally aware of the inflammation progressing into more advanced stage. In that case, visit the dentist for anti-inflammatory therapy and receive advice on how to correct a lifestyle as well as oral hygiene.
The fundamental way to prevent periodontal disease is a good brushing. There are a variety of oral care products, such as interdental cleaner and dental floss, other than toothbrush, but it is most recommendable to use a toothbrush, not depending on a whole range of other tools. For contemporary people who lead a busy life, it is necessary to establish a long-lasting, effective and handy way to keep your teeth and gums healthy. In the use of interdental cleaner or dental floss, it is important to first discuss proper use with your oral hygienist. Whatever the case may be, it is of primary importance to find out what is best for your particular needs.
